In Mukunda Puram, Aravind, a young man, used to do agriculture and serve for the development of the village. Those villagers were constantly going to work in Island which is in the middle of Godavari. There is a canal between the villages. A palm tree bridge was built to cross the canal. Walking on that palm bridge, every now and then someone slips and falls into the canal.
Therefore, Aravindh asked the village panchayat to build a bridge over the canal. The members said that there are no funds for that. At least all the villagers subscribed and built the bridge themselves, but no one came forward. So, Aurobindo made a boat with his own money. The village panchayat agreed to pay a monthly salary to the person appointed to run it. The villagers were also very happy as the palm tree bridge to cross the canal went away and Boat came.
Nagendra, who lives in the same village, has a habit of criticizing anyone who does anything. “Would it be enough to put a barricade instead of building a bridge over the canal? Paying the man who drives it will not increase the panchayat funds!” He criticized that. Aravind did not say anything even though that word reached his ears.
Once upon a time Aravind left for another village in his ox driven cart. While walking along the riverbank, he saw some of his villagers walking in the sun on the way. Aravind called them and took them in the cart. Among them was Nagendra. Aravind was striking the oxen with a stick while walking slowly instead of running.
Seeing that, Nagendra said, "It's a great thing to make the bones work! Nagendra criticized as usual saying, "If you lean on your back with love, they will listen to you." Arvind still did not say anything.
When he went a little further, Aravind saw Ox walking with a snail's pace and said to Nagendra, "It seems that what you said is true. I sit back. "You come forward and drive the cart," he said.
Nagendra got upset and said, “I can't drive a cart.” He said anxiously.
"You who know how to tame a sheep, can't drive a cart?" said Aravind in surprise.
"Is it possible for everyone to drive a motorcycle as long as they know the way?" said Nagendra.
Then Aravind smiled and spoke. “The idea of doing a good deed and the idea of how to do it are in everyone. The difficulty lies in putting them into practice. Thinking is different, practice is different. Just like if you dive into water but you don't know the depth, if you practice a task but you don't know the pros and cons of it. It is easy to criticize what others do. It is difficult to do that work yourself.. Criticism for the sake of criticism is harmful. They risk turning back those who want to do good.”
As Aurobindo gently points out his omission, Nagendra realizes his mistake. After that, not only did he never indulge in unnecessary criticism in any matter, but he also started helping the good works done by others.
